Best time to go: All year long.

Ushuaia is a city you need to visit at least four times to really get to know it. Landscapes change dramatically along the four seasons. Summer allows you to make a big number of outdoor activities and has the nicest weather. Besides, it is the time with more daylight hours: 19 hours approximately. Winter has only seven to eight daylight hours but days can be clear and light. During the fall the trees drop their leaves getting an ocher, copper, pink, red and orange-colored shade. Spring is particularly appealing for blossoming plants and gardens.

What to wear

You should wear heavy clothes as in the rest of the Andean Patagonia; bear in mind that this is the snowy season and therefore a very cold one. If you are thinking of making a snow-related activity we recommend waterproof clothing (specially footwear). If possible we recommend “Gore-Tex” shoes. During summer, cold weather is not so hard although the western wind may cause many cool days. You should carry warm clothes though it is summertime.

Must See / Do

» Take a picture at the End of the World signpost. Within Tierra del Fuego National Park, at the end of the road, there is a commemorative sign which indicates the end of Panamericana route and the land distance which separates it from Alaska. There is another similar sign in Alaska which indicates the distance to this point.

» Take the “Navegación Isla de Lobos y faro del Fin del Mundo” tour. Here, you will get an overwhelming view of Ushuaia from the Beagle Channel.

» Get on the Martial Glacier chairlift and then go on walking upwards as far as your body allows you to in order to enjoy a privileged view from Ushuaia, the Beagle Channel and the Navarino Island (Chile) on the background.

» Taste the spit-roasting Tierra del Fuego lamb and the spider crab and, if you visit the area in winter, the highland coffee in some of the winter resorts.

How long do you need?

» 2 nights minimum with 1 whole day to take this destination’s two main tours. In the morning you will be able to visit Tierra del Fuego National Park and in the afternoon sail to “Isla de lobos and Faro del Fin del Mundo”.

» However, the best option would be to stay 3 nights in order to have 2 full days. One of the options is to take the Tierra del Fuego National Park tour the first day and sail to “Isla de lobos and faro del Fin del Mundo” the second. Doing this, you will have extra time to visit the city and the old prison or climb the Martial glaciar the first day. Another option is to leave the second day to take the one-day Lago Escondido and Lago Fagnano tour crossing The Andes.
